Bistro facility in Liberec ZOO
Overview
A wooden bistro building that combines several functions in a small area.
The children's play area in Lidové sady at Liberec ZOO provides an activity for children, outside the ZOO itself. The children’s facility had an old and inadequate bistro building, which had to be removed and replaced with a new one.
The new building provides full facilities for the bistro and its employees, also contains a storage space for the maintenance of the play area itself. Also provides facilities for runners who start their sports activities in the forest nearby.
The building is a timber-framed structure with a distinctive white attic, which sets it clearly against the background of greenery of the forest itself. The timber cladding is horizontal to emphasize the building’s prolonged shape and visually lower the structure. The building has a green roof and uses excess rainwater for irrigation. It is heated by an air-to-air heat pump, which was the best choice for a building of this size.
Bistro can serve their customers on both sides, thanks to strip windows at the front and back as well. The covered patio for visitors is equipped with etagere plant pots to educate visitors about the different plants to be grown at home and in the garden.
